Position sensor

Andreas Mühlbauer,

Virtually no stroke loss for hydraulic cylinders

Siko has developed the SGH10L position sensor for hydraulic and telescopic cylinders. It is suitable for applications in which virtually no stroke loss is acceptable due to the integration of the sensor in the cylinder.

This is made possible by mounting the sensor on the side of the hydraulic cylinder. This is because the SGH10L is not installed in the cylinder base, but is instead screwed onto the cylinder in its specially developed housing with a hydraulic screw connection. The cable is guided into the cylinder and steered towards the piston head via a defined deflection and screwed in there.

This design means that only the installation space for the sensor ear is required in the cylinder. As a result, the Siko sensor increases flexibility in the design of hydraulic cylinders with integrated position measurement.

Hollow drilling of the piston is not necessary. A variety of interfaces are available, such as analog current or voltage outputs, CANopen or SAE J1939. Thanks to the intuitive teach-in, the sensor, which is available in two versions (500 and 1000 mm measuring range), can be easily and conveniently taught to the exact measuring range. The sensor can also be used in telescopic cylinders.
