Metav is postponed
Metav will not take place in March. This was announced by the organizer, the VDW, on the afternoon of 28 February.
Metav was scheduled to take place in Düsseldorf from March 10 to 13 and will now be postponed to another date. Dr. Wilfried Schäfer, Managing Director of the organizer VDW: "We did not take the decision lightly, but the coronavirus or Covid-19 has spread extremely dynamically in recent days. With the high number of infected people in Italy and the spread in North Rhine-Westphalia right on the METAV's doorstep, the uncertainty among our exhibitors has increased considerably."
The announcement was preceded by several cancellations by major exhibitors, as Federal Health Minister Jens Spahn has spoken of the start of an epidemic in Germany and travelers from crisis areas will be checked on entry with immediate effect. "As further developments are not foreseeable, we have decided to postpone Metav at short notice. In coordination with our partner, Messe Düsseldorf, we will announce the new date as soon as possible so that exhibitors and visitors have planning security as soon as possible," says Schäfer.
The VDW is not alone in its decision to postpone the trade fair. Earlier this week, the organizers of Light&Building postponed the trade fair to September. The International Hardware Fair has also been postponed until next February. And in Switzerland, all events expected to attract more than 1,000 visitors by the end of March have been canceled. This also includes the Geneva Motor Show.
