Thanks to the special Multicone suspension, an efficient, time-saving lapping process is possible without changing the geometry of the machined component. Unlike grinding, lapping removes material in several directions, as a suspension of lubricant and abrasive grains removes the tiniest irregularities from the surface of a workpiece. Thanks to this free abrasive material, a specific and constant surface roughness can be achieved within the tightest tolerances. The flatness of the workpiece is also improved.

Kamil Guttmann, Coordinator of Customer Service & Marketing at Okamoto: "The lapping process for small or highly profiled components is difficult to automate with conventional methods or is often interrupted. This is because the unbound, dry abrasive grains used in such processes are blown against the component and bounce off again. This causes them to shatter too quickly. The suspension must therefore be changed frequently in such processes in order to avoid lower removal rates and inconsistent qualities. This is where Okamoto came in with AeroLap and Multicone and optimized the process."

Machining and forming tools, embossing punches, mold cores for injection molds, cutting punches and dies can be lapped more efficiently with AeroLap and without dust and noise impairment. Multicone is a special, elastic carrier material that is mixed with diamond powder. The AeroLap uses a special turbine to gently apply the lapping medium to the profile of the component. As a result, the flexible medium virtually flows over the surface and enables all surfaces to be processed evenly. As a result, the abrasive grains last longer and do not splinter uncontrollably before a defined time and tolerance limit. This allows the user to keep the suspension in the system for a long time and in a predictable manner.
