PID controller

Andreas Mühlbauer,

Multifunctional controller with many additional functions

The R7100 PID controller from Elotech also offers data logger functions, graphical display of curves and a multifunctional display interface.

This allows it to be used as an indicator system with numerous other physical values. Several 0 to 10 V or 0 to 20 mA signal inputs are available for connection. A 7" touch display is used for display and operation. Alarm values (min and max) and corresponding alarm outputs are also available for the display function.

The data logger function saves all relevant process data to a USB memory in a CSV file. The sampling rate of the signals is freely selectable. As an option (Q1 2020), the R7100 can also communicate with the Elotech Elovision Windows software. The tool allows quick and easy configuration.

The associated M7100 IO board is based on a top-hat rail carrier and will be available in several expansion variants in the future. In addition to the 8-zone input/output board, further controller zones can be connected by cascading additional M7100s. In addition to the inputs for thermocouples or PT100/PT1000 sensors, load outputs with up to 9 KW are also available on the output side alongside logic and relay outputs.

Driven by a powerful embedded Linux processor, the multifunctional controller communicates via Ethernet, Profibus, Profinet, RS232/RS485, TTY or OPC UA, depending on the equipment variant. Elotech offers a panel and rear mounting option. The display controller unit communicates with the connected IO boards via an internal bus.

Depending on the expansion stage, the R7100 also offers the option of heating current monitoring. In addition to the integrated program controller (individual temperature profile programs or ramp curves), there is a self-optimization algorithm for even more precise control results. If required, current transformers can be used to record and monitor the heating current. The R7100 will be available from January 2020 and is offered with several different powerful IO boards
