New hybrid connectors for innovative applications

Hybrid connectors are gaining increasing acceptance on the market. More and more applications are relying on this one-cable technology.

Hummel is one of the pioneers in the field of hybrids and offers solutions in the M16, M23 and M40 series. These connection solutions can be seen at the SPS in Hall 10.0, Stand 358.

The M23 series connectors are particularly popular, as they combine high performance with a compact design in an ideal way. The M23 Hybrid Type 2 (4+4+4+PE) with four power contacts is new. This connector is DC-capable, i.e. it can also be used in DC networks. Just like the tried-and-tested hybrid connector (4+4+3+PE), the four Ethernet contacts transmit data at up to 500Mbit/s with power processing of up to 28A / 630V. They are designed for data transmission via Single Pair Ethernet or DSL.

The M40 Hybrid is a real powerhouse that can transmit data rates of up to 100 Mbit/s in addition to the performance data of the standard M40 series. Furthermore, the M40 Hybrid has an additional contact pair that allows the user in servo technology, for example, to realize high electrical characteristics of brakes. Up to 300V/8A are possible here, a real special feature in the hybrid connector.

The M16 (12+3) connector offers a proven solution. With power processing up to 12A and a data transfer rate of up to 100 Mbit/s, users have a compact connection solution with attractive performance data at their disposal.

The reasons for the hybrid trend are obvious. Industrial Ethernet is considered a key technology on the way to Industry 4.0 and many users are asking themselves the question of the right connection solution. The small space requirement of hybrids plays a central role here. One connector instead of two or three, less weight on the end device (e.g. motor) and shorter processing times for connector assembly - these are the convincing arguments for these single-cable solutions.

Users in industrial environments have even more stringent requirements for their connection solutions. They need robust versions with high IP protection, impact resistance and all relevant international approvals. Circular connectors from HUMMEL are also available as INOX versions or with the Twilock and Twilock-S quick-locking systems.
