Development of intelligent connectors
Connectors and sensors - connect them now
TE Connectivity (TE) and Tacterion partner to develop smart solutions for connectors and components.
TE, a provider of connectivity and sensor solutions, is teaming up with Tacterion, a tactile sensor company, to use intelligent touch and force sensor technology for the digitalization of industrial processes. As part of the collaboration, the partners are developing connector and component solutions that combine TE connectors with sensor technology from Tacterion. These new products enable digital remote monitoring of equipment - they are critical components for predictive maintenance, condition monitoring and safety applications in Industry 4.0. The first product in this new series of smart connectors is planned to be launched in 2023.
Thin and robust sensors
Tacterion holds patents for technologies for bendable and stretchable proximity, touch and force sensors under the brand name Plyon, which can be used to turn almost any surface into a "smart" surface. The sensors are characterized by their flexibility, robustness and high signal integrity on curved or bent surfaces: The 0.5 to 0.7 millimeter thin Plyon sensors are suitable for small bending radii of up to 1.0 centimeter while maintaining their full measuring range. The sensors are durable and resistant to static loads. Thanks to Tacterion's proprietary drift compensation technology, they provide a virtually drift-free display over time, meaning that they can also be used in demanding industrial environments.
Smart Intercontec connectors
TE uses this flexible sensor technology to make its own products even smarter, for example the Intercontec connectors. These are used in servo motors, robots and various machines, where they contribute to more reliable operation, which can be further optimized by equipping them with a sensor. The sensor monitors the status of the connector and reports malfunctions, such as deviations or an open plug connection, to the higher-level monitoring system. This helps users to reduce costs and minimize machine downtimes through predictive maintenance.
Tacterion's sensor products will also be available through TE distributors and on the TE website.
