Incoming orders
Mechanical engineering in Bavaria suffers from Ukraine war
Incoming orders in the Bavarian mechanical and plant engineering sector fell significantly in March.
Incoming orders in March were 11% below the previous year's figure. Domestic business recorded an increase of 4 percent. Foreign business fell by 17%, according to VDMA Bavaria.
The three-month comparison from January to March 2022, which is less affected by short-term fluctuations, shows a more positive picture. In this period, orders were 8% higher overall than the previous year, with domestic orders up 19% and foreign orders increasing by 4%.
"Unsurprisingly, the war in Ukraine had a negative impact on the March reporting period. Due to the loss of orders from Russia and Ukraine and the uncertainty on the markets, orders slipped significantly into negative territory. It remains to be seen what effect the ongoing crisis will have in the medium term," says Elgar Straub, Managing Director of VDMA Bavaria.
