Continental at the Hannover Messe

Industry hackathon on new solutions and business models

Continental has invited participants to an international industrial hackathon. Start-ups from four different eco-systems are looking for ideas and solutions in the industrial environment as part of the Hannover Messe. "Technological innovations are the lubricating oil and fuel for the future viability and competitiveness of industrial companies. Together with our almost 150 years of expertise and a fresh view from the outside, we are shaping and pursuing new approaches from which completely new products, systems or business models can emerge," explains Hans-Jürgen Duensing, Continental Executive Board member responsible for the ContiTech division. Young talents, lateral thinkers and creative minds from Germany, Mexico and Romania will spend three days working together with Continental experts on the future in a "Start-up Corner" integrated into the trade fair stand.

International young talents seek industry solutions

"We use the Hannover Messe as a think tank and think tank," says Christoph Seeger, responsible for the newly created Innovation and Digitalization area in the ContiTech division, explaining the company's motivation. The participants of this event develop ideas for logistics or intralogistics applications in parallel in four teams and are supported by Continental experts for drive belts, conveyor belt systems, industrial tires and industrial hoses. They are guided through nine different phases of a design thinking method in order to find concrete approaches for use-oriented solutions. At the end of the third day, all ideas will be presented to a jury. A live vote at the trade fair stand will determine the winning idea on site, which will then be developed further together.

In addition to external collaborations, Continental also promotes the innovative potential and entrepreneurial spirit of its employees. Continental had already launched a start-up program in 2017. The aim was to give its own employees, as well as external entrepreneurs, the opportunity to develop new business concepts and bring them to market. The company supports the respective projects with expertise, mentoring and funding. am
