Cognex acquires Korean supplier Sualab
Cognex acquires the Korean provider of deep learning-based machine vision solutions Sualab. With this acquisition, the company is strengthening its deep learning-based image processing and automation of inspection applications.
With the help of Sualab's engineering team and innovative technologies, Cognex 's existing skills in the field of deep learning will be expanded.
"Deep learning enables Cognex to solve many inspection challenges that previously could only be solved by large teams of human inspectors," said Robert J. Willett, President and CEO of Cognex. "In the future, machine vision will enable such tasks to be performed more reliably and cost-effectively," said Dr. Robert J. Shillman, Founder and Chairman of the Board. "We are pleased to welcome the Sualab team to Cognex. It is a great fit with our work hard, play hard, move fast culture."
The Korean provider was founded in 2013 in Seoul, Korea, by Song Kiyoung. "Sualab's goal was already clear when the company was founded: we wanted to become the global market leader in deep learning-based image processing," says CEO and Sualab co-founder Song Kiyoung. "With Cognex, we have now achieved this goal. Together, we will pursue our goal even more intensively in order to solve even the most complex machine vision applications of our customers even faster, easier and more cost-effectively."
