BASF discontinues activities in Russia and Belarus

As announced on March 3, 2022, BASF is no longer concluding new business in Russia and Belarus due to the war of aggression against Ukraine ordered by the Russian government.

The chemical company's statement reads: "BASF strongly condemns the Russian attack on Ukraine and the violence against the civilian population.

BASF's Board of Executive Directors has now decided to also discontinue the company's existing activities in Russia and Belarus by the beginning of July 2022. One exception is business to support food production, as the war risks triggering a global food crisis. This decision was taken in light of recent developments in the war and in international law, including the fifth EU sanctions package.

There are currently 684 employees working for BASF in Russia and Belarus. The company has decided to continue to support its employees in both countries until the end of 2022. Detailed plans are currently being drawn up for an orderly discontinuation of activities in Russia and Belarus. In 2021, Russia and Belarus accounted for around 1 percent of the BASF Group's total sales."
