"Digitization for medium-sized companies"
Many German SMEs are currently experiencing this vague fear: developments in Industry 4.0, digitalization and big data are racing past us and overrunning our traditional business. PROCAD Managing Director Raimund Schlotmann addresses the uncertainty and the need for knowledge on how to tackle the topic in his new, practical book "Digitalisierung auf mittelständisch" (publisher: Springer Vieweg, available to pre-order). A practical guide to digitalization in mechanical engineering, plant construction and other industries under the motto: "Understand. Demystify. Make."
The book is aimed at anyone who is faced with the opportunity, challenge or threat of digitalization in a technical SME environment. In an understandable and concrete way, the author describes what digitalization and the Internet of Things mean for the technical business environment. He provides a wake-up call and explains how the shift in product differentiation from hardware/mechanics to software is changing the rules and opening up gateways for new competitors.
It clearly explains how medium-sized companies do not have to be paralyzed by the new trends, but how they can demystify them and make practical use of the content - by adopting a mindset based on impact and the business model and a new type of generalist expert, the "impact manager".
They work on the basis of the "digital impact management" method presented in the book, which was developed by PROCAD Managing Director Raimund Schlotmann. PROCAD provides platforms for the digitalization of SMEs. The PROCAD topic of Product and Document Lifecycle Management is, alongside ERP and the office world, one of the key areas in which SMEs need to drive forward digitalization.
Author Raimund Schlotmann is an electrical engineer and began his career in the engineering and software area of Siemens plant engineering. From 2000 to 2006, he successfully built up a cloud computing company that creates and operates solutions for the digitalization of purchasing processes in medium-sized companies. He has been continuously involved in the digitalization of business processes and is now Managing Director of PROCAD GmbH & Co KG, a medium-sized software provider for product and document lifecycle management headquartered in Karlsruhe. "With 'Digitalization for SMEs', I want to help the many successful and outstanding SMEs to tackle the exciting potential of digitalization in a concrete, positive and optimistic way," explains Raimund Schlotmann.
