Higher production capacities

WEG modernizes for millions

WEG is investing in modernizing the machinery of its subsidiary Watt Drive. The gearbox specialist initially received a new production machine with an investment volume of 1.1 million euros.

The installation took place at the beginning of August 2018 using one of the world's strongest all-terrain cranes, the Demag AC 1000-9, with a lifting capacity of 1,200 tons.

Increase in production capacity
The new Makino A99E four-axis machining center will be used for machining gearbox housings and is the first measure in a modernization and expansion campaign at the Markt Piesting site, according to the company. The aim is to effectively increase production capacity. The new production machine will be connected to Fastems' existing, already modernized multi-level system (MLS) and the high-bay warehouse. This means that the high productivity and flexibility of the Fastems system can continue to be used without restriction.

Thanks to the new production machine, machining times can also be reduced by around 25 percent. The larger tool magazine also offers a greater variety of tools that can be used to machine both the gearbox housings of the proven MAS geared motor series and those of the newly developed WG20 geared motor range, which is currently being expanded for nominal torques of up to 18,000 newton meters.

From fall 2018, the next step will be to expand the existing production and storage space by more than 70%. Further investments in the double-digit million euro range are to be made in the machinery at the Watt Drive site by 2023. as
