Contitech: Storage elements protect self-propelled transport systems

Continental offers mounting elements that protect self-propelled units in intralogistics from shocks and vibrations caused by unevenness such as thresholds or slight differences in height.

Continental equips self-propelled transport units in intralogistics with various mounting and damping elements.

Digitalization, automation and robotics are also on the rise in intralogistics. In the factories and logistics centers of the future, intelligent, autonomous systems will take over the transport of products between the various work steps all the way to the warehouse. The trend is primarily towards self-propelled platforms that, for example, supply production robots and machines with supplies at the right time and move around independently. They therefore fulfill important criteria of modern intralogistics: they ensure fast reaction times in the flow of materials and goods and at the same time provide even greater flexibility in processes. Storage elements from Continental ensure that the respective services are performed reliably.

When traveling across the hall floor, the autonomous transport units also manage uneven surfaces such as thresholds or slight differences in height. Prototype development and practical use have shown that the switching unit in the self-driving platforms in particular is a weak point that reacts sensitively to shocks and vibrations. If vibrations are not dampened, the electronics can be damaged. Cable breaks and cable fractures are possible consequences that can paralyze the autonomous transport system and thus the entire flow of materials and goods.

Vibration effectively reduced

To prevent unplanned failures and ensure a high level of reliability, manufacturers are increasingly relying on additional bearings for the sensitive switching unit. Elastomer-based special elements prevent vibrations from being transmitted to the electronic units.

For this purpose, Continental offers mounting elements such as rubber-metal components that are installed at the transition from the chassis to the gearshift unit. They decouple the sensitive electronics from vibrations and thus protect against damage and failure. The additional mounting also protects the transported goods, which can also react sensitively to vibrations. In addition to standard elements, Continental also offers customized mounting elements. am
