New motion controllers
Safety for human-machine collaboration
Faulhaber has launched a new series of motion controllers with redundant safety shutdown based on the STO (Safe Torque Off) principle.
This immediately interrupts the power supply to the motor so that it can no longer generate torque. The devices in the MC 5004 P STO series are therefore certified for operation up to safety integrity level SIL3 (IEC 61800-5-2) and performance level PL e (EN ISO 13849-1).
"The new motion controllers ensure safety in the collaboration between man and machine, even in an Industry 4.0 environment," emphasizes Product Manager Volker Hausladen. "In response to a signal from a safety device - such as a light barrier - the driven unit is switched off in accordance with the standard and the event is signaled or visualized locally and at a higher level."
At the same time, the devices meet the requirements of networked processes with their communication capability. They are available with USB, RS232, Canopen and Ethercat interfaces. This means they are capable of real-time communication with the higher-level process control technology and offer great flexibility in terms of possible applications.
The MC 5004 P STO series motion controllers with up to 50 volts supply voltage and up to twelve amps peak current can be used in all safety-relevant applications in machines and robots in combination with high-performance motors from Faulhaber. This provides system solutions that cover the safe operation of an entire axis.
The motor type to be connected can be freely selected. The special controller structure of the series also allows for exceptionally high dynamics when operating the motors. The integrated profile generator can also handle complex operating profiles. Position, speed and current can also be controlled independently of the fieldbus using analog specifications. as
