Motor flushing
Flushing system for large motors
The latest addition to Pepperl+Fuchs' pressurized enclosure/purge technology offering is the Bebco EPS Series 6100, a motor purge system specifically designed for use with large motors or enclosures in Zone 1 hazardous areas. The 6100 Series system can purge an enclosure over 450 cubic feet (12.2 cubic meters) and is suitable for chemical/petrochemical and oil and gas applications.
The 6100 series, Pepperl+Fuchs' largest purging system, is a fully automatic system that does not require the operator to initiate purging or pressurization. It offers optional temperature sensors that can be mounted around the motor to enable alarm signaling or cooling. In addition, there is automatic pressure equalization in the event of excessive pressure loss in the motor.
The 6100 series system consists of a control unit, pressure monitor, low pressure sensor and optional temperature sensors. The control unit allows the user to configure the system for: Motor size, temperature switching points, pressure switching points for leakage compensation and cut-off pressure as well as an additional output for control or alarm, two selectable intrinsically safe inputs for different actions and up to three temperature sensor inputs that can monitor different points in the motor housing. The intrinsically safe user interface can also be mounted in a separate enclosure close to an operator for quick access and easy system monitoring.
The pressurized enclosure/purge system is certified for ATEX and IECEx zone 1 and has auxiliary contact outputs for alarm or control as well as several temperature inputs for monitoring and control. The maximum flow rate is 14,000 l/min. The system also responds with automatic pressure equalization in the event of excessive pressure loss in the motor.
The intrinsically safe pressure sensor provides an accurate housing pressure indication for safe operation in hazardous areas. The pressure sensor, which can measure an internal pressure of 0 to 25 mbar, can be mounted on the outside of the low pressure area of the motor to provide accurate and safe motor pressure measurements.
The EPV-6100 pressure switch can be set to detect different flush flows and send the signal back to the 6100 series control unit to start the flush timer. Five flow rates are available to choose from.
Other features of the 6100 series system include system bypass, manual on/off of the enclosure, temperature activation of the purge for cooling purposes and delay of power supply shutdown in the event of pressure loss for pressure correction during shutdown procedures.
