Integrated encoder with line driver

Mara Hofacker,

Miniaturization of encoders

Faulhaber launched the new IEH3-4096 L with Line Driver at SPS IPC Drives 2018 as a continuation of the existing portfolio of integrated encoders, taking miniaturization to the extreme.

The existing products IEH2-4096 with 2 channels and IEH3-4096 with an additional index channel are already highly compact. Integrated into the precious metal commutated DC-micromotors of the SR series, they extend the motor by just 1.4 mm. In the same installation space, the IEH3-4096 L now combines yet another function: a line driver for interference-free transmission. With longer cable lengths or electromagnetic interference in the application, the line driver still enables reliable transmission of the encoder data.

The new encoder supplies the quadrature signals A and B as well as the index channel as complementary square-wave signals in a space of just 1.4 mm. According to Faulhaber, with a resolution of up to 0.022 degrees and a line driver, it is a leader in its class in terms of compactness. The IEH3-4096 L can be combined with DC micromotors from the SR series with a diameter of 15 to 17 mm and with DC micromotors from the CXR series with a diameter of 13 to 17 mm and is compatible with its predecessors IEH2-4096 and IEH3-4096 in terms of installation space.
