Metal bellows couplings
Power transmission in high-speed test benches
Special high-speed test rigs are used to test bearings. In these tests, the effects of different lubricants on the sliding properties of the bearings are checked in an endurance test.
The design of such a test stand must meet various requirements. The drive is subject to special conditions. In addition to a lateral force-free bearing, the coupling is a component that should not be underestimated. In this case, the key properties are torsional stiffness, good damping properties and the precise and almost force-free compensation of all misalignments between the shaft ends.
Torsionally rigid, flexible metal bellows couplings are suitable for such applications. The thin metal bellows have vibration-damping properties as well as compensating properties. The high flexibility of Jakob 's KSS couplings with their 2-corrugated bellows and straight intermediate piece as well as the problem-free installation option using conical bushes as a shaft-hub connection guarantee reliable transmission of all forces and torques, even with small shaft diameters and without an additional feather key.
The rotationally symmetrical design ensures very good dynamic operating behavior even at very high speeds. The high torsional stiffness and the low restoring forces in the event of shaft misalignment as well as the low moment of inertia characterize the coupling type. Torques from 25 to 2500 Nm are possible. In addition to test benches, the couplings are also suitable for servo drives and actuators.
