Drive system

Modular and networked

A highlight at the Stein stand will be a complete system that demonstrates energy-saving material transfer. The centerpiece is the Softmove drive system, which moves the workpiece carriers quickly and yet gently.

At Automatica in Munich, Stein will be demonstrating how cycle times can be shortened, material transport can be gentle and quiet and employees can be ergonomically integrated into the assembly process. (Image: Stein)

For smooth acceleration and deceleration, EC motors regulate the speed continuously between three and 25 meters per minute. They are energy-efficient, as their power is precisely adapted to the respective demand. Another advantage of Softmove technology is the reduced noise level, which is made possible by the smooth control of the motors. Stein focuses on the shortest possible cycle times with its high-speed workpiece carrier infeed.

Instead of the previous 1.4 seconds, based on a workpiece carrier measuring 240 by 240 millimetres, the changeover is completed in just 0.7 seconds. A jerk-free movement profile ensures the smoothest possible yet quickest possible retraction. The manual workstation is height-adjustable and can be installed at any point in an assembly system in combination with the upstream and downstream height adjustment unit (HAE). The automation specialist addresses the topic of Industry 4.0 with networked control components and intelligent workpiece carriers. Stein relies on RFID technology to network the assembly lines. as
