Security of control systems

On the safe side with SecurityBridge

When people, machines and industrial processes are intelligently networked, these networks are also more vulnerable. The Pilz SecurityBridge protects the configurable, safe small controllers PNOZmulti and the automation system PSS 4000 against network-based attacks and unauthorized access. Plant and machinery are therefore not only safe, but also secure, ensuring the safety of employees and increasing the availability of machinery.

Safety must offer both the protection of man and machine as well as the necessary flexibility and availability in the smart factory. This requires a holistic approach to safety and security, which is supported by hardware solutions such as the Pilz SecurityBridge.

Not only safe, but also secure

With the SecurityBridge, Pilz is expanding its product range to include industrial security. The Pilz SecurityBridge protects the connections between the programming and configuration tools and the hardware controllers against manipulation, for example by detecting unauthorized changes to the automation project. The SecurityBridge acts like a firewall. Unlike generic firewalls, however, it does not require complex configuration and can be easily put into operation thanks to application-specific presettings based on the plug-and-play principle.

In addition to security, users also benefit from higher system availability, as only necessary data (authorized configuration and process data) is transferred.

Secure by design

Pilz also develops its products with security in mind in a TÜV-certified process in accordance with IEC 62443-4-1, taking aspects such as threat scenarios, strengths and weaknesses of protocols or encryption methods into account from the outset.

The same applies to security as to safety: for technical measures to be effective, they must be accompanied by organizational measures such as instructions, procedures and training. The Pilz Academy therefore also offers training courses on the subject of industrial security. am
