Connectors for data transmission
TE Connectivity has launched a new series of field terminable M12 connectors for rail vehicles. These X-coded connectors enable data transmission rates of up to 10 Gbit/s (according to IEC 802.3an Cat 6a). Their housings, which are made entirely of metal, offer 360° shielding against EMI/RFI interference and are dust and waterproof in accordance with protection class IP67. Applications include data and sensor networks, assemblies for controlling train doors and HVAC systems in rail vehicles.
The connectors have turned gold-plated crimp contacts. These resist strong vibrations (DIN EN 61373, category 1, class B) and ensure uninterrupted use of the connectors over their entire service life. All non-metallic components (with the exception of the protective cap) are made of materials that have an HL3 rating in accordance with the European standard for the fire behavior requirements of materials and components in rail vehicles (EN 45545-2). The crimp flange and crimp sleeve are suitable for the selected cable. The contacts are available for conductor cross-sections from AWG 22 to AWG 28.
The connectors are designed for an operating temperature range of -40 to 70 °C with grip cap or -40 to 85 °C without grip cap. They have withstood more than 250 mating cycles in tests. The housings are made of a nickel-plated copper alloy and the insulator and contact holders are made of flame-retardant thermoplastic. am
