Hybrid automation
Blurring the boundaries of automation
Festo's SPS trade fair appearance this year under the motto "Faster. Better. Connected. Discover a new dimension of hybrid automation", the company's range of automation solutions - from pneumatic to electric and hybrid solutions.
As a provider of automation technology and technical education, Festo is also gearing its products and services towards smart production in the course of digitalization.
The company aims to position itself across all technologies and has therefore once again expanded its product portfolio in the field of electrical automation. "We have to deal with a wide range of different competitors in this area. That's why we have focused on seamless connectivity when developing our product portfolio - just like in our core business of pneumatics. This means that we offer everything from a single source, from the axis mechanics of the machine to the electronics, artificial intelligence and digitalization," says Dr Frank Melzer, Member of the Management Board for Product and Technology Management at Festo.
Festo demonstrates the cross-technology automation of workpieces and mechanics through to the cloud using a modular production system for personalized USB sticks. This "Productivity Master" shows the combination of all Festo engineering tools around the Festo Automation Suite as well as components and solutions in hardware and software.
Plug and Work with new products
With the "Simplified Motion Series", the product portfolio in the field of electric drives has been expanded. The six drives are designed for the simplest movement and positioning tasks. In addition, the Simplified Motion Series can be commissioned quickly without software, prior knowledge of programming and electrical connection technology. IO-Link offers extended functions: These include remote setting, parameter copy, back-up function and read functions of extended process parameters. The cost-effective plug-and-work solution thus combines the strengths of electrics with the simplicity of pneumatics.
Another product highlight is the Festo Automation Suite for fast commissioning of the entire electric drive package, from the mechanics to the control system. The software combines parameterization, programming and maintenance of Festo components in one program.
Festo aims to offer its customers further added value with the connectivity of its products to third-party products. Whether it is quick and easy integration into control systems from other manufacturers or simple motor connection using a single-cable solution - the CMMT servo controller is compatible in all directions.
Experience flying robot insect live
The BionicOpter has made it into the Guinness Book of Records 2020 as the world's largest flying robot insect. Just like its natural model, the dragonfly flies in all directions and performs the most complicated flight maneuvers. Thanks to its ability to move all its wings independently of each other, it can brake and turn abruptly, accelerate rapidly and even fly backwards. This is the first time a model has mastered all flight modes of helicopters, airplanes and even optocopters.
Qualification for Industry 4.0
Festo Didactic will also be at the stand with its latest training offering in the field of industrial automation technology. Increasingly intelligent systems and flexible production processes require new qualifications for employees to operate digital and intelligent systems. Festo Didactic has developed the cyber-physical learning platform "CP Factory", for example, for the practical transfer of knowledge. The platform maps the stations and processes of a real production plant in the form of a learning factory. In addition to this, Festo Didactic also offers many training courses for the further training of employees.
