Rotary table bearing
Sensor measures wear
The lubrication- and maintenance-free polymer rotary table bearings (PRT) from Igus are suitable for systems where robustness and load-bearing capacity are required - for example in control panels, welding systems, indexing tables or chainsaws.
To prevent bearing failure and unplanned system downtime, Igus has introduced the Isense PRT. It uses a sensor to measure the wear of the bearing and indicates to the user in good time when replacement is required. These rotary table bearings are equipped with radially and axially acting sliding elements between the inner and outer rings of the bearing, which are made of aluminum or stainless steel. The maintenance-free sliding elements made of the high-performance plastic Iglidur J ensure that friction and wear are minimized without the use of lubrication.
In the Isense PRT, a wear sensor, which is mounted in a milled recess under the sliding elements, measures the axial lowering of the PRT head ring resulting from the wear of the plastic sliding elements and passes the information on to the Icom communication module. In comparison with a wear rate determined in advance based on the application, the Icom module can indicate the necessary replacement in good time. The communication module receives the data from the sensor and sends the information to the desired end devices via WLAN. pb
