Expanded offering for the automotive industry
Atlas Copco wants to take over Klingel Fügetechnik
The Swedish group Atlas Copco wants to take over Klingel's joining technology division. The company specializes in flow drilling screws, a mechanical joining technology that is used specifically in the automotive industry and is suitable for joining materials in mixed construction methods.
Klingel Joining Technology is one of Klingel's three business divisions. The division achieved a turnover of around 8.5 million euros in 2017. Atlas Copco is taking over 23 employees. The takeover is still subject to legal review and is expected to be completed in the second quarter of 2018.
"The use of new materials and the combination of lightweight materials in the automotive industry also require innovative joining technologies," says Henrik Elmin, President of Atlas Copco's Industrial Technology division. "With this acquisition, we are expanding our range and gaining further expertise in the field of screw feeding and automation for the automotive industry."
The purchase price is subordinated in relation to Atlas Copco's market capitalization and will not be disclosed. The business area will be acquired from Bretten-based Atlas Copco IAS and integrated into the Industrial Assembly Solutions (IAS) division within Atlas Copco's Industrial Technology group area. In this division, Atlas Copco already offers solutions for gluing and dispensing technology as well as self-pierce riveting technology. as
