Additive manufacturing

Mara Hofacker,

Transformation of traditional design and production

At Formnext 2018, Stratasys will showcase its latest additive manufacturing solutions to transform traditional design and production.

The company will showcase new advanced additive manufacturing solutions that specifically address the needs of customers across a broad range of industries and drive new transformations in design and manufacturing workflows.

The exhibition stand will showcase the latest material and application developments and will focus on four different areas: Concept Modeling, Prototyping, Tooling and Manufacturing of Finished Production Components. Each area will showcase a wide range of components and customer applications.

In the Manufacturing Corner, visitors will learn how companies such as Siemens Mobility use Stratasys ' FDM-based additive manufacturing to produce individual, customized tools for production as well as spare parts for direct use in vehicle interiors. According to the company, lead times per component are improved by up to 95 percent and FDM-based additive manufacturing reduces storage requirements for surplus components.

In addition, stable and at the same time FDM lightweight materials used by automotive and aerospace companies will be presented. The proven 3D printers of the Fortus series, in particular the recently introduced Fortus 380mc Carbon Fiber Edition, will be presented live. Nylon 12CF consists of 35 percent carbon fiber and is so robust that it can make the use of metal superfluous. Stratasys will demonstrate how the mechanical properties of FDM Nylon 12CF can be used to make the transition from traditional metal components to 3D printed plastic composites.

One solution for the entire prototyping process

Given the continued importance of 3D printing in rapid prototyping, Stratasys will showcase its diverse prototyping solutions that meet the needs of the entire prototyping workflow. Visitors to the booth will learn how companies can use 3D printing to reduce lead times and costs throughout the design process, from concept modeling and design verification to fully functional prototypes.

The capabilities of the Stratasys J750 multi-material, full-color 3D printer will also be illustrated using manufacturer applications. With the ability to produce complex, colorful, functional prototypes in a single print run, these companies are significantly reducing their design processes. The prototyping area will also feature Stratasys' F123 series, which is suitable for office spaces and design teams. The renowned series of FDM 3D printers received over 1,000 orders in the first six months, according to the company.

The latest developments in metal 3D printing and more

For the first time at a European trade fair, Stratasys will be showcasing the latest developments in its metal 3D printing technology and presenting new application components in the Innovation Area of the stand. In addition, numerous components will be shown that have been manufactured using the Robotic Composite 3D Demonstrator production system, which Stratasys developed in collaboration with Siemens. It offers manufacturers the opportunity to print composite components faster using an 8-axis motion system. The special feature here is that no support material is required.
