SICK: Camera systems safeVisionary2

safeVisionary2 is the first 3D time-of-flight camera with Performance Level c safety certification. It enables safe three-dimensional environmental detection and has been nominated in the 2024 Product of the Year competition in the handling, assembly and production logistics category.

With the world's first 3D time-of-flight camera with Performance Level c safety certification, SICK is opening up a new dimension in safety technology. safeVisionary2 enables safe three-dimensional environmental detection, which can be used to increase the safety and efficiency of a wide range of applications. Thanks to precise measurement data, the camera also reliably solves automation tasks, which means that additional hardware components can be saved.

safeVisionary2 has a compact, robust design and is versatile and reliable in a wide range of everyday industrial applications. For example, for mobile robots that need to navigate safely and efficiently through halls. As a versatile solution, e.g. for collision protection and side guarding, safeVisionary2 increases the availability and safety of industrial vehicles. The camera also provides three-dimensional environmental data so that mobile robots can find their way autonomously.

By opening up the third dimension, safeVisionary2 can help to avoid collisions above the scanning level of safety laser scanners and thus reduce downtimes and failures. New safety approaches are also possible in stationary applications such as cobots. With safeVisionary2, collaborative robots "see" their environment with "new eyes" and act even more safely and dynamically. For example, the camera recognizes residual risks such as people leaning over into the danger zone. As a result, the safety margin to be taken into account for the protective field length of safety laser scanners can be reduced, enabling collaboration with fewer stops in a smaller space. The camera can also be used for protection from behind.

New security concepts possible

As the world's first 3D time-of-flight camera with safety certification, safeVisionary2 enables completely new safety concepts. Thanks to the three-dimensional evaluation of safety-related fields in mobile and stationary applications, it also detects obstacles above the protective field of a safety laser scanner. This increases the safety and productivity of industrial systems. Thanks to its solid-state technology, safeVisionary2 is resistant to shocks and vibrations. The 3D measurement data generated can also be used for automation tasks, e.g. for vehicle navigation.
