New AOI system at Axxeron Hesch
Detect errors in the production of printed circuit boards at an early stage
With the Verispector from Marantz electronics, Axxeron Hesch electronics is investing in Automatic Optical Inspection (AOI) of THT (manually) assembled PCBs in its production facility in Neustadt. The major advantage of AOI is that defects can be detected early on the PCBs before they are fed through the solder wave.
At Axxeron Hesch, 100% output testing through functional and endurance tests of every PCB and every end device is an important part of quality assurance. As in SMD production, quality control is also required in the field of THT. With the large number of wired components in manual assembly, errors are almost unavoidable. With the investment in the Verispector, irregularities in THT assembly are detected immediately. The AOI now takes place directly before the PCB is fed through the solder wave. In accordance with the rule of ten for error costs - the cost of an undetected error increases by a factor of 10 for each production step - this investment significantly reduces the cost of eliminating errors. Another advantage of the new system is that product throughput times are shortened.
AOI system for THT placement stations
In production at Axxeron Hesch in Neustadt, the new AOI detects faults on THT (manually) assembled PCBs in real time before they are fed into the soldering process. This enables faults to be rectified at an early stage without having to manually desolder components. In addition to inspecting the components, the system can also be used to check presence, alignment, shape, offset, text and color as well as perform barcode reading. An integrated 24-megapixel camera and a high-resolution lens enable even the smallest details to be captured. If an error is detected by the AOI, it can be rectified immediately. This leads to a significant cost reduction in the production of THT-assembled PCBs.
Continuous investment in electronics production
Quality comes first at Axxeron Hesch. This is not only reflected in the quality management system according to ISO 9001:2015, but also in the continuous investments to optimize production. For example, the company recently expanded its SMD production line with two state-of-the-art AIMEX IIIc placement machines from Fuji. This has improved process quality and increased throughput and the degree of automation. There are also already investment plans for the new branch in Hamburg, where process quality and the degree of automation are also to be increased and throughput times reduced.
