Saint-Gobain Abrasives supports SEAM
Abrasive manufacturers commit to greater sustainability
"Sustainable European Abrasive Manufacturers", or SEAM for short, is the name of the new program of the Federation of European Producers of Abrasives (FEPA). In it, abrasives manufacturers, suppliers and distributors set a European sustainability standard. The aim: greater competitiveness.
The SEAM program aims to support abrasives manufacturers on their way to more sustainability and responsible growth, primarily in the areas of production and distribution. A founding member of this association of sustainable European abrasives manufacturers is Saint-Gobain Abrasives, which is committed to measures to support sustainable growth.
The program is based on the recognition that an effective European sustainability program must involve all companies in the abrasives supply chain. Accordingly, the program aims to support abrasives manufacturers on their path to greater sustainability and responsible growth, primarily in the areas of production and distribution. Ultimately, the participating companies should gain a business opportunity and a competitive advantage by committing to greater sustainability.
Establishing sustainability standards
Large, medium and small abrasives manufacturers, suppliers and distributors have joined SEAM to set a European sustainability standard to find the right balance between environmental efficiency, production performance and occupational safety. This common goal and set of values helps European companies to achieve a strong position in the world.
To achieve this, SEAM member factories must fulfill a series of minimum requirements, which are divided into three basic pillars: Environment, Labor and Economy. Within the three pillars, several derived objectives such as energy management, employee safety and business continuity must be met.
"Through our participation in the SEAM program, Saint-Gobain Abrasives strongly - and with a certain pride - underlines our Group's commitment to protecting the environment and our resources, reducing inequalities and improving everyday life and living conditions for all. Today, making a positive contribution is less an expectation that we have to fulfill and more a requirement for us, our employees and our stakeholders. With this in mind, Saint-Gobain Abrasives is committed to reporting progress on sustainability and responsibility indicators on a regular and annual basis," emphasizes Xavier Orlhac, Vice President, Saint-Gobain Abrasives, Europe Middle-East Africa.
