Guinness World Record
Trelleborg manufactures the world's largest O-ring
Trelleborg Sealing Solutions has achieved a Guinness World Record: at 364 meters, the sealing specialist has produced the largest O-ring in the world. It was produced using the Fleximold process at the Trelleborg plant in Tewkesbury, England. The successful record attempt was the focus of a joint project with pupils from Tewkesbury School.
Trelleborg in Tewkesbury teamed up with 20 pupils from Tewkesbury School to achieve an entry in the Guinness Book of Records with the largest O-ring ever produced. During the project, they were trained in various manufacturing disciplines and were involved in the planning around the design, costing and production of the O-ring.
The students were also involved in the impressive presentation: together with Trelleborg, they laid the 364-meter-long elastomer O-ring around the medieval Tewkesbury Abbey. The integrity of the O-ring was checked by Artis, an elastomer consultancy based in the UK. The circumference of the O-ring was then measured using an industrial wire measuring machine. The record was finally confirmed by the Guinness Book of Records adjudicator.
Sealing specialist Trelleborg produced the O-ring using its Fleximold process, which enables the production of seamless giant O-rings. Large O-rings are primarily used in the process industry - for example in the pharmaceutical, food and beverage industries as well as in the electronics sector, particularly in the manufacture of flat screens.
