Machine safety made suitable
Where performance has the highest priority and several axes of CNC machines need to be protected at the same time, precisely fitting bellows are used. Hema designs these individually in special geometries.
The medium-sized company Hema, based in Seligenstadt, designs and manufactures customized bellows. The ready-to-install machine guards are used, for example, as protection for CNC machines. High requirements apply here: Modern protective covers must follow the complex geometries of the machine tool. Resistance to sharp-edged chips, high temperatures and aggressive cooling lubricants is essential in this context.
This also applies to CNC machining centers with a small installation space, where the cover must protect several axes at the same time. The shape and design of the bellows must always be individually designed for each machine. Small installation spaces of modern machine tools not only require compact installation dimensions, the bellows must also meet the requirements of high process speeds and complex spindle movements.
Individual shape and material
Not only must the design of the bellows be tailored to these requirements, the outer material of the bellows must also be selected appropriately. Depending on the application, Hema technicians select from a comprehensive range of special fabrics. Bellows from the Elastic series are ideal for protecting guideways, for example on measuring machines or as protection against gripping on lifting tables.
On the bellows of the Samurai series, additional stainless steel plates protect the fabric of the bellows from damage caused by chips during machining. Here, the lamellas are attached to the upper edge of the pleats and additionally reinforce the bellows. In high-speed machining, the lamellas provide effective protection against "fast", very hot and sharp-edged chips. Solutions for CNC machine centers with speeds of over 100 meters per minute and accelerations of over 1.5 g have already been successfully implemented with the Samurai series.
