The creation of a specification sheet is still a central step in the introduction of a new ERP system. The free "ERP Planner" guides the user step-by-step through all relevant questions in a total of seven different categories that need to be considered on the way to the final decision for a software provider. This includes the processes along the value chain, the infrastructure, the current use of IT systems and digitalization technologies as well as the functional requirements for the new ERP system and the necessary interfaces.
The questionnaire does not necessarily have to be completed in one go, as the processing can be continued at any time thanks to a save function. This ensures that the questions are answered conscientiously, as the user has the option of completing missing data or data that still needs to be clarified at a later date without any deadline pressure. This also prevents data loss. The current processing status of the individual categories can be viewed in the cockpit. Otherwise, the user also has the option of generating the partially completed specifications, as the output is in an Excel file that can also be adapted offline at a later date or supplemented with process diagrams, for example.
Once the entire list of questions has been completed, the specifications are ready and can be used as a digital tender document to contact potentially suitable ERP providers. The program allows a company to get an initial idea of the requirements that the new software must meet without taking any financial risk.
With the "ERP Planner", a service of the management consultancy Evolvio, which was developed with the participation of experts from abas Software AG, abas is following up on the "Digital or Dead" awareness campaign and recommends another tool for SMEs on the path to digitalization of central business processes. With the requirements specification, companies determine the extent to which the new software should provide support in implementing strategies and achieving objectives. This is because the efficient organization of company processes is becoming a significant competitive advantage, especially in the course of IoT expansion.
