Production in the age of the platform economy

Digitization poses major challenges for medium-sized manufacturing companies. Applications need to move to the cloud and companies need to adapt to the platform economy. Easier said than done, which is why the experts at gbo datacomp, one of the leading experts for comprehensive MES solutions, look behind the hype and support manufacturing companies with individual solutions on their way to Industry 4.0.

The experts from gbo datacomp can be found at the Hannover Messe at Stand E11 in Hall 7 (Digital Factory).

The term platform economy in particular is not widely used in industry, as current surveys show. However, platform-based applications can certainly bring advantages for manufacturing companies. What these are depends on the respective requirements and objectives of the individual company. This is where gbo datacomp comes in, working with customers to develop tailored solutions based on their individual digitalization progress on the road to the smart factory.

Cloud-based applications are at the heart of the platform economy. The first solutions for manufacturing execution systems exist on the market, which are at least partially transferred to the data cloud, for example to provide pre-compressed data in the form of key figures on mobile devices. Sensitive process data, on the other hand, is not outsourced to the cloud - partly due to security concerns and partly because the "detour" via the cloud cannot (yet) provide data in real time. There is simply a lack of computing power and, in many places, a corresponding broadband connection.

The MES professionals at gbo datacomp take all of these circumstances into account when developing individual and scalable solutions for networked production. "We pick up the company where it is digitally and accompany it to its destination," says Managing Director Michael Möller. "It is important to us that we go down this path together with the customer. This is the only way we can successfully master the enormous challenges of digitalization - and not with hyped, supposedly simple solutions."
