Precise sensor technology for mobile machines

Melanie Steinbeck,

Compact singleturn Hall-effect encoder with IP65

Megatron has introduced the MP1612 Hall-effect encoder, a particularly compact single-turn encoder. The sensor technology operates wear-free, making the encoder an alternative to potentiometers.

Thanks to the Hall effect for measured value acquisition and a high-quality plain bearing, the MP1612 achieves more than 100 million revolutions. The electronics are housed in a metal housing that complies with protection class IP65. This makes the encoder suitable for use in mobile machines and vehicles where vibrations, dust and moisture frequently occur.

The MP1612 offers a voltage output of 0.5...4.5 V with 12-bit resolution and an operating temperature range of -40 °C to +105 °C. With a housing depth of 11.5 mm and a diameter of 12 mm, the rotary encoder also fits into very tight installation spaces, such as those found in control panels, joysticks or compact control housings of AGVs, industrial trucks and agricultural machinery.

Megatron can also supply the encoder with redundant electronics or SIN-COS output on request. Mechanical fastening is via a metric bushing thread with fastening nut and toothed lock washer or by means of a flange, which enables quick integration even in confined spaces.
