Draw-wire encoder

Long measuring length and compact housing

Long measuring lengths and a housing that is as compact as possible are not only an everyday requirement in intralogistics or for manufacturers of mobile machines. This is also an important factor in the selection of sensors for new machine concepts in stationary mechanical engineering.

With an installation depth of just 70mm x 85mm x 105mm, the new SG121 draw-wire encoder from the specialists in Buchenbach near Freiburg is suitable for measuring lengths of up to 12m.

A robust aluminum housing paired with impact-resistant plastic withstands even the most adverse operating conditions such as temperatures of -40...+80°C, high shock and vibration loads as well as dirt, dust and water. For outdoor applications in the low temperature range, Siko offers an optional version with integrated water drainage holes. This prevents water from freezing at sub-zero temperatures and thus increases the service life.

The flexible 58 mm flange system allows almost any interface to be implemented. Whether incremental interfaces such as HTL or TTL, absolute interfaces such as analog, SSI, CANopen, SEA J1939, CANopen Safety, fieldbus or Ethernet, the customer can choose the right interface for their application.

The wire travel sensor is also particularly flexible at the wire outlet. The unique Wire-Flex technology ensures that wear on the rope is reduced to a minimum, even when the rope is pulled out at an angle. The conically shaped rope nozzle and the different rope types ensure that any deposits on the rope are reliably removed. In this way, the rope tension sensor automatically compensates for mechanical tolerances of the machine or vehicle and protects the function and service life of the measuring system, even in difficult ambient conditions.

In combination with the redundant WV58MR safety encoder, the SG121 draw-wire travel sensor offers increased safety and can be used in the overall system in applications up to performance level d (PLd). The mechanical design and specially developed software make this possible. Electronics and mechanics are monitored and dangerous states are detected. The new SG121 is therefore predestined for use in mobile machines.
