Acceleration sensors for modal analysis
With the two highly sensitive 8740A and 8788A series, Kistler presents improved and more robust accelerometers for modal analysis in the automotive, aerospace and other industries.
The 8740A and 8788A accelerometers from Kistler are extremely light and small, as well as extremely insensitive to noise. This allows even more accurate vibration measurements. The IEPE (Integrated Electronics Piezo Electric) sensors are available for the 5 g, 10 g and 50 g ranges, with all models in both series covering a wide frequency response.
The 8740A series of single-axis sensors and the 8788A series of three-axis sensors replace the 8640A and 8688A series in the Kistler portfolio. While the housing design and low weight remain the same, the 8740A and 8788A series differ from their predecessors in one key respect: a ceramic shear element replaces the previous P-beam technology and ensures improved accuracy and lower noise thresholds. "This proven technology makes the sensors much more robust than their predecessors," says Joshua Kasprzyk, Product Manager Acceleration at Kistler. "We were also able to reduce the background noise of the various g ranges by up to 133 percent compared to the previous models." The new accelerometers achieve the lowest noise levels on the market in their respective g-ranges in combination with their other technical specifications.
For different modal analyses
The 8740A and 8788A series were developed for multi-channel modal analysis on small components as well as for testing various larger structures - for example in aerospace technology and the automotive sector, such as in NVH tests (noise, vibration, harshness). An integrated IP68 waterproof cable is also available as an option. This enables users from the shipbuilding industry to carry out underwater tests at 16 bar for up to 48 hours. Alternatively, users can opt for a version with TEDS capabilities to make setting up the sensor easier. Threaded holes allow the sensors to be freely installed on test objects and, in the case of the triaxial 8788A series, calibrated on all three axes. This allows each mounting side of the cube design to be used and ensures reliable mounting for the calibration of each axis. Optimized production processes also lead to shorter delivery times and improved availability of the sensors, which are generally used in larger quantities.
