Wibu-Systems has extended its CodeMeter embedded technology to support the QNX Neutrino Real Time Operating System (RTOS), a cross-process 64-bit POSIX-compatible real-time operating system from BlackBerry QNX.

QNX is widely used in safety-critical systems for vehicles, medical devices, industrial controls, rail transportation, robotics and aerospace.

The goal of this collaboration with BlackBerry QNX is to provide manufacturers of safety-critical devices with a high level of safety for their software while reducing research and development costs and shortening the time to volume production.

CodeMeter Embedded is a static library with licensing and encryption functions of CodeMeter technology for embedded operating systems such as Linux Embedded, VxWorks, Android and QNX.

Designed for embedded systems that need to operate 24/7/365, CodeMeter Embedded offers a variety of options for manufacturers of safety-critical devices. These include support for different license containers (in the form of hardware, software or cloud containers), deployment on different devices (such as industrial computers, embedded systems, controllers and microcontrollers), integration with back-office systems and support for different operating systems - including QNX Neutrino. CodeMeter Embedded has supported QNX on ARM and x86 architectures since QNX 6.5 and the current version QNX 7.0 since 2019.

Oliver Winzenried, CEO and founder of Wibu-Systems, says: "BlackBerry QNX has always strived to make its QNX operating system even leaner, safer and more reliable, and I'm excited about the opportunity to support this with CodeMeter Embedded, driving innovation in security."

"The QNX operating system provides a reliable foundation for building competitive safety-critical systems in a secure and cost-effective manner and is used and trusted by automotive, medical, industrial automation, energy, aerospace and defense customers worldwide," said Dhiraj Handa, VP Channel, Partners and APAC at BlackBerry Technology Solutions. "We are thrilled that Wibu-Systems is supporting our operating system, especially given the significant position we hold in the embedded space. And we look forward to working with Wibu-Systems in the coming months and years to deliver a secure and reliable solution to our joint international customers."
