Euchner at the FachPack 2022

Andreas Mühlbauer,

Smart safety for the packaging industry

Packaging, filling or palletizing food, cosmetics and pharmaceutical products - safety technology is required at every step of the packaging process to reliably protect people, machines and processes from hazards and malfunctions.

Euchner combines innovative safety technology with today's communication requirements for the automation of networked machines and systems: Euchner's safety systems can be used with Ethernet-based protocols such as Ethernet/IP, Profinet or EtherCat as well as in the ASi or IO-Link environment. Integration is simple and significantly reduces wiring and diagnostic work. As a pioneer in this field, Euchner will be presenting its latest new developments at Fachpack - all "Industry 4.0 ready": the new CKS2 safe key system, the particularly compact CTM guard locking with a hygienic version for small doors and flaps and the new CTS safety switch, which has a particularly high locking force despite its small size.

Locking and starting with one system

The new secure CKS2 Electronic-Key system can be used to lock and start machines and systems, to assign authorizations for selecting an operating mode or as a key transfer system. Together with highly coded RFID keys, the CKS2 Electronic-Key adapter forms a secure system with maximum protection against tampering. The integrated evaluation electronics provide users with a compact system which, in combination with the Euchner IO-Link gateways, offers extensive diagnostic and communication functions. For example, it is possible to read out which key was used to operate the system. The CKS2 is also available as a submodule for the MGB2 Modular safety gate system. This allows a wide range of new applications to be implemented on the safety gate.

In principle, a key can be assigned to several Electronic-Key adapters in different systems. The system is also flexibly scalable in terms of the number of keys. In the packaging and intralogistics sector in particular, the CK2 is suitable for use in complete turnkey systems, for example for fully automated palletizing systems and logistics systems.

Small, smart and "Industry 4.0-ready"

Small, bistable guard locking and the highest safety level - plus hygienic design: The CTM was specially developed for use on small and lightweight doors in primary packaging and the food industry and impresses with its extremely small dimensions of 120 x 36 x 25 mm. This makes it one of the smallest guard locking devices on the market and makes it particularly easy to integrate into the machine design. Even doors with extremely small swing radii can be secured. The bistable guard locking function ensures that the door remains locked even in the event of a power failure. The CTM is therefore suitable for personnel and process protection and achieves the highest safety level PL e. And with its intelligent communication via IO-Link, the CTM offers future-proofing and is "Industry 4.0-ready" out of the box. It can be easily connected in series with other Euchner devices. The integrated interface also enables connection to the Euchner gateway, which forwards the data to the higher-level control level via IO-Link.

Compact with high locking force and flexible mounting options

If you are looking for a compact safety switch with a particularly high locking force, the CTS is the right choice for you. The safety switch measures just 135 x 31 x 31 mm and has a maximum locking force of 3900 N. Thanks to three different mounting directions and the floating universal actuator, the CTS can be used anywhere - whether for swing or sliding doors or the smallest door radii. The extendable escape release can be retrofitted at any time. The transponder-based safety switch with guard locking fulfills the highest safety requirements of category 4/PL e.

The CTS combines various functions in one device that are otherwise only found in individual variants. Users can choose the function for which it is to be used - whether with or without guard locking monitoring, whether high- or low-coded evaluation of the actuator code. This flexibility is made possible by the new patented "FlexFunction" concept, in which the function is simply selected via the appropriate actuator. This switch is also Industry 4.0-ready: in addition to intelligent communication in the series connection of Euchner devices, the new switch offers connection to IO-Link using a corresponding gateway.
