Metal processor CSP supplies security gates for electric car factory
The specialist metalworking company CSP has developed a safety system for the fully automated production of electric vehicles. The first systems have been delivered to a German car manufacturer.
German car manufacturers are working flat out to set up their fully automated e-mobile production lines. A system whose central component comes from CSP in Pfronstetten ensures that one cog in the material supply system meshes with the other.
The safety gate developed and produced by CSP ensures that neither people nor material enter the safety zone on the production line in an uncontrolled manner. CSP Managing Director Harald Späth: "Large robot systems work in production, some of whose programmed motion sequences require considerable force. This can be very dangerous for people who are there."
To eliminate such dangers, the CSP team has developed a material feed system that meets the car manufacturer's safety requirements. At its heart is the airlock system. It ensures that the delivered parts end up where they are needed. And that nothing else can get near the production robots.
The functionality of the overall system depends on the very precise hardware components - and their data networking, keyword IoT. The storage system automatically knows when which robot on the production line needs which material. This is automatically retrieved from its place and brought to the production line through the airlock assigned to the respective robot. Safely and without human intervention.
"All process steps are precisely coordinated," explains Harald Späth. "With the safety interlock, we have implemented a so-called muting system for the first time, which incorporates all safety components such as light sensors, light grids and roller shutters for its seamless monitoring."
CSP delivered eight of its newly developed safety interlocks a few weeks ago and they are currently being installed in a fully automated factory for electric vehicles. The tender for the next systems is currently underway. as
