Twin4Trucks celebrates successful half-time milestone
Good cooperation pays off: The Twin4Trucks research project, in which six partners from industry and science are working together, has reached the halfway point of its project duration. The milestone has now been presented at the consortium meeting in Ludwigshafen. The tenor: the team is working on the right topics to drive forward the future of truck production.
The vision of Twin4Trucks is ambitious: to jointly provide end-to-end digitalization solutions for the commercial vehicle industry. Various technologies play a role in this, including the development of a digital twin that maps a section of truck production at the Daimler Truck site in Wörth am Rhein. The plant is the place where the solutions can be used once the project has been completed. For this purpose, subject areas were divided into eight work packages. The issues include the development of an architecture model, the use of 5G and the transfer of the results to the general public and industry. In total, the six consortium partners Daimler Truck, the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence, Eviden, Infosys, Pfalzkom and SmartFactory-KL are working on the project.
At the 3rd consortium meeting of the project at the Pfalzkom premises in Ludwigshafen, the focus was on the interim results. "We can see that the collaboration between the partners is bearing fruit after the first 18 months," explains project manager Dr. Ekkehard Brümmer. Various use cases are currently being tested at the Daimler truck plant in Wörth, including artificial intelligence in the quality inspection of frame assembly. The initial results are very promising.
Work on the architectural model is also progressing well, and innovative infrastructure-controlled robots are being used in the SmartFactory-KL and DFKI testbed. Overall, there was an atmosphere of optimism in Ludwigshafen. "I am proud to be part of Twin4Trucks and look forward to the results, which will also greatly advance our company," said Pfalzkom Managing Director Uwe Burre right at the beginning of his welcoming speech.
After the successful exchange, everyone involved is certain that the collaboration in the second half of the project will continue to be productive. The Twin4Trucks project will run until the end of August 2025.
