Cranes and hoists

Three questions for...Michael Bühne

Logimat 2020. After the specialist for cranes and hoists recently significantly expanded its capacities, Abus will also have a large presence at Logimat. handling asked Managing Director Michael Bühne about the plans for the trade fair and the prospects for the future.

Abus has a broad portfolio of cranes and hoists. Which areas or which major topics are your customers currently focusing on in particular?
Michael Bühne: Abus supplies many different industries and company sizes from 10 to 100,000 employees. Larger cranes and hoists are particularly needed as part of expansion investments and the development of new sites. We are also seeing an increasing trend towards providing individual workstations with lightweight, flexible crane solutions in the range up to two tons. Our combination of sturdy steel rails and lightweight aluminum cranes is right on trend.

What does this mean for Abus, what developments are in store for you this year?
Michael Bühne: Thanks to the significant expansion of our Gummersbach site this year, we now have a specialized, functionally redundant machine park as well as very large production areas for the continuous production of crane systems and hoists. This will further increase the throughput, flexibility and reliability of our production.

The motto of this year's Logimat is "Intralogistics at first hand | Visions - Innovations - Solutions". What will Abus be presenting at the trade fair?
Michael Bühne: We have two highlights. Firstly, probably the only fully functioning overhead traveling crane at the trade fair. The "small" single-girder crane is equipped with the ABUControl modular crane control system. You can drive the crane yourself in the middle of the stand and test the sway damping, for example. On the other hand, and perhaps more interesting for the intralogistics sector, is our modern light crane system with the unique combination of steel rails and aluminum cranes. Abus thus offers a solution that combines the advantages of both materials and significantly simplifies the work of planners and workers.
