Pocket sorter discharges

Premiere at Logimat: For the first time, Ferag is presenting automatic loading and unloading stations specially developed for the Skyfall pocket sorter. Both innovations are aimed at the goods distribution sector and are of interest to online retailers and multi-channel operators whose range of goods does not exceed ten kilograms in weight.

The systems, which are fully integrated into the Skyfall technology, can be used to mechanically handle textiles, foodstuffs and household items in particular: The items slide into the Skyfall pockets by themselves and slide out of them again at the end of the conveying and sorting process without damaging the product.

"At Logimat, we will be presenting a wide variety of application areas in which our Skyfall system can score points," announces Ferag CEO Jürg Möckli. The spectrum covered by the Swiss company at the demo system exhibited in Stuttgart ranges from automotive (e.g. production of plastic injection-moulded parts for instrument panels, doors, etc.) and construction chemicals (transporting and buffering silicone cartridges) to packaging handling (transporting folding cartons for beer cans), e-commerce and multi-channel marketing.

2,000 bags per hour

At the same time, the latest innovations from the engineers from the Zurich Oberland should not be neglected. The new bags for retail products designed by Ferag for the Skysorter have walls made of elastic synthetic fibers. They are designed in such a way that they can be optimally loaded and emptied automatically. The automatic loading and unloading stations on display for the first time can process up to 2,000 bags per hour. At the start of the show route, which has a gravity-only section, the products fall automatically into the prepared bag; at the other end of the course, they slide out of the bag, which is folded over by a tilting mechanism, in a controlled manner.

The high adaptability of Skyfall technology for a wide range of applications is largely based on the fact that the individual hangers can be combined not only with bags, but also with different load carriers. Such as those for cans, cartridges or vehicle components. Customized designs are also possible. The manufacturer also points out that even a slight incline and gravity are sufficient to propel the smoothly rolling shuttles. This means that they do not require any electric drive on slopes. Thanks to their three-dimensional mobility, they also take advantage of the structural features of operating facilities. Even with complex systems, larger floor areas remain completely free for production and packaging purposes or as traffic areas. In addition, each system is easily scalable. as
