Urban Fulfillment Center
Knapp supplies e-commerce technology to Brazil
Drogaria Onofre, a retail chain based in Brazil, is opening a new urban fulfillment center in São Paulo specifically for e-commerce to deliver express orders.
Drogaria Onofre's online channel accounts for around 50 percent of net sales. In order to further optimize the delivery process, the company is investing in technologies and innovations in the field of e-commerce logistics. This enables Onofre to cope with the increasing volume of orders and reach its customers more quickly. "People who shop online not only expect convenience, but also flexibility and fast processing, especially when it comes to medicines," explains Luis Fernando Silva, Head of Logistics at Drogaria Onofre.
The new Urban Fulfillment Center is located in the heart of São Paulo, following the global trend of positioning e-commerce logistics in the center of large metropolitan areas. This new location will allow Onofre to reach its customers faster than with traditional distribution centers, which are usually located outside the city center. It will be the first urban fulfillment center in the Brazilian market with a total area of five thousand square meters. Operations are scheduled to start in the second half of 2018.
The combination of the OSR shuttle system and Knapp's Pick-it-Easy goods-to-person workstations is designed to create efficiency, flexibility with ergonomic conditions for employees, a guarantee of quality during order picking, a reduction in potential errors and an increase in the efficiency of the distribution center by up to 100 percent.
"We believe that the investment in Knapp technologies will ensure efficient operations and has the potential to triple current operations, reduce picking and delivery times by up to 30 minutes, while using 85 percent less labor than those operations that do not have such a solution," concludes Managing Director Luis Fernando Silva. as
