Container conveyor system
Into the future with luggage
Kuwait Airport will use a baggage handling system from Beumer at the new Terminal 2. It offers an integrated screening system in a container-based transport and sorting solution as well as a dynamic early baggage storage system. The project is scheduled for completion by 2022.
With the expansion, the operator aims to create one of the most innovative and advanced airports in the world. Sheikh Salman Sabah Salem al-Humoud al-Sabah from Kuwait's Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) explains that the new twelve billion dollar mega-hub will keep pace with the rapidly growing air traffic in the region. "To this end, the DGCA has modernized the existing airport through a series of projects, for example with the construction of the new Terminal 2," he says. This should be able to handle 25 million passengers per year and accommodate all types of aircraft on 51 gates and parking spaces. Beumer is supplying the automated baggage handling system for this.
Among other things, the system consists of a Crisbelt conveyor with integrated baggage screening, the Crisbag container-based transport and sorting system and the Crisstore early baggage storage system with 1,800 positions. Beumer thus ensures high availability, short transportation times and seamless baggage tracking. With the higher-level control system, the operator can also handle large baggage flows flexibly and reliably.
Kuwait Airport has also commissioned the system provider to ensure smooth operation with a customer support team on site.Klaus Toftgaard, CEO of Beumer Middle East, welcomes this decision and points out that it will ensure optimum efficiency of the system. "This solution is based on the in-depth knowledge of our design engineers. It enables us to achieve optimum operation even in demanding environments."
The Ministry of Public Works Kuwait is leading the prestigious project together with the architectural firm Foster + Partners in collaboration with Gulf Consult as designer and the Turkish company Limak Insaat as main contractor. The new airport will serve as the region's leading hub for traffic between Africa, Europe, Asia, America and the Middle East. as
