Higher performance, fewer picking errors
Teamwork with the autonomous order picker
Dutch logistics service provider Detailresult Logistiek relies on the iGo neo CX 20 autonomous order picker from Still to increase productivity and reduce the workload of its employees. The first of 34 vehicles were delivered in November 2017.
Previous intensive tests have shown this: Optimization potential can be leveraged with the Still iGo neo CX 20. As a result, Detailresult Logistiek BV, logistics service provider for the Dutch supermarket chains Dirk van den Broek and DekaMarkt, ordered a total of 34 autonomous order pickers. The first vehicles were delivered in November 2017. Further devices will follow in January 2018 and will be deployed in the food area of Detailresult Logistiek BV in Velsen-Noord.
"We tested the iGo neo CX 20 some time ago. The results from back then were reason enough to keep an eye on the new technology. Although the processes in our distribution centers have already been optimized as far as possible, we are looking for further potential for improvement, such as the use of autonomous industrial trucks," explains Arjan Warmerdam, Project Manager at Detailresult Logistiek BV.
With you every step of the way
The iGo neo follows the order picker wherever they go, keeping a safe distance from shelves and any obstacles so that the operator can concentrate fully on their work. This not only increases picking performance, but also reduces picking errors. Independent tests have shown that an increase in productivity can be achieved compared to conventional picking. The intensive test at Detailresult Logistiek BV also underlines the earlier test results. "The exact increase in productivity depends on the products and the picking route," explains Warmerdam. "If the intervals between stops are not too long, the operator does not have to constantly get on and off the truck and is therefore more productive."
In addition to an increase in productivity, the practical test also showed that the autonomous vehicle relieves the pickers of tiring movement sequences. "The employees had to get up and down several hundred times per working day. This was not only a heavy physical strain, especially on the knees and back, but also took a lot of time," notes Warmerdam.
360-degree scanner on the vehicle
The way in which the iGo neo CX 20 is controlled also offers logistics specialists advantages. Compared to other industrial trucks that are controlled by hand, for example using a glove or a box attached to a belt, the operator only has to press a button on the side of the iGo neo and the intelligent vehicle "keeps an eye" on them using its 360-degree scanner. The vehicle automatically follows the operator as a teammate to the relevant picking stations and stops immediately if the operator stops. "Our employees first had to get used to it a little, but now they like the teamwork with the smart order picker. They now have both hands free and can devote their full attention to picking," adds Warmerdam.
By using the iGo neos, Detailresult Logistiek is switching to multi-client picking. Three roll containers are picked at the same time. This allows a further increase in productivity to be achieved. "Thanks to multi-client picking, we are continuing to use industrial trucks for order picking in this area. We are also investigating whether there is potential to adapt picking processes in other areas accordingly and use the iGo neo there too." as
