Dematic now unloads automatically
Dematic's pocket sorting system now also enables automatic pocket unloading. This means that unloading rates per hour can be increased six-fold.
By optimizing the bag sorting system, the automation solution now better meets the requirements of fulfilment and returns processing for e-commerce companies. Here, the automated hanging system is used on roll adapters to store, sort and buffer hanging and flat-packed goods as well as flat-packed items and cartons. The bags are loaded automatically via belt conveyors.
"With automatic bag unloading, we are closing a gap in existing automation systems and thus ensuring a significant reduction in effort during fulfillment and returns processing," says Klaus Hiesgen, Vice President Overhead Systems Center of Excellence at Dematic.
To achieve this, the company not only optimized the bags of the bag sorting system, but also developed an opening and closing mechanism: a combination of clip and bayonet closure allows the bag to be opened at any point and emptied fully automatically. The goods are then transported gently on a chute, a belt conveyor or directly into a container as required. The automatic process increases the number of unloads in the picking process from around 200 to 1,200 per hour compared to a manual solution.
The new opening and closing mechanism can be integrated into existing bag sorting systems. In addition, closed bags can be combined with the new bags within the system. "Compared to the standard closed bag, only three more components are required, so the system pays for itself within a very short time," says Hiesgen. as
