Expansion in Kentucky
Clark invests 4.6 million in US production
Clark is planning to expand its North American headquarters in Lexington, Kentucky. A third production facility is to be put into operation there, where the S-Series counterbalance trucks will be produced for the US market. The investment volume amounts to 4.6 million US dollars.
Series production is expected to start this summer. "The expansion of our production facility in Lexington is an important step in positioning Clark for the future," said Dennis Lawrence, President & CEO of Clark Material Handling Company in the USA. "With the expansion of production, we want to further improve our processes, eliminate waste and shorten lead times."
This is the third expansion of the Clark site in Lexington in four years. Clark already opened a new R&D/Engineering Center in the USA in 2017, after expanding production in 2016 to include high-volume models from the closed Mexican plant. In order to meet the growing demand for electric and IC engine-powered industrial trucks, Clark plans to manufacture almost 80 percent of its products for the US market in Lexington in the future.
Since Clark built the first gasoline-powered forklift in 1917, revolutionizing material handling, the company has produced more than one million forklifts. The inventor of the forklift truck opened his first company headquarters in the Bluegrass State of Kentucky in 1974. In 1985, the company moved its headquarters to its current location in Lexington. Today, the product range for the US market includes a complete range of electric and IC engine-powered counterbalanced trucks as well as narrow-aisle forklifts, warehouse technology and a comprehensive range of services. as
