Slewing bearings with a long service life
A high level of reliability must be guaranteed for large-diameter bearings - after all, components with an outer diameter of up to 6,100 millimetres and a weight of up to 20 tons can only be replaced with great effort.
"When manufacturing slewing bearings, there are a number of things to consider to ensure that the end customer receives an optimum product," says Martin Stremmel, Product Manager at Rodriguez. "Of course, our customers attach great importance to the long service life of the components, especially in the area of these special bearings." On the production side, Rodriguez achieves this through high-performance and precise machining of the raceways and gears as well as precise control of the inductive hardening process.
However, the greater potential lies in the engineering: the individual calculation of raceways and gearing as well as the dynamic load simulation using finite element methodology (FEM), which Rodriguez offers in cooperation, ensures optimum performance. Lubricants, correctly designed maintenance intervals and technical support even after delivery and during operation of the bearing component also have a life-extending effect.
The corresponding expertise is also so important for slewing bearings because the massive components are often custom-made. In many applications, standard bearings are out of the question from the outset - whether for design or economic reasons. In addition, not only is an unusual size often required, but the bearings must also meet special requirements. Rodriguez has already designed and implemented numerous tailor-made solutions that are used in lignite mining and offshore applications, among others. "We also supply customized special designs at short notice," concludes Martin Stremmel. "Our individual engineering enables us to design prototypes and supply identical spare parts for existing machines." as
