NexSafe rail brakes are certified for functional safety in accordance with the international safety standard ISO 13849-1. They are ideal for linear motion applications where safety is paramount. The spring-applied, air-operated rail brakes are compact and powerful and can be used in conjunction with most profile guide rails. They can be equipped with sensors to detect the application and release of the brake and are therefore Industry 4.0-compatible.

Rail brakes are used in linear systems to grip and hold profile guide rails. They play a crucial role in many linear motion applications: they ensure that the carriage and payload do not move under load. Applications for rail brakes include systems in the packaging industry, machine tools for metalworking, woodworking machines and medical systems.

The spring-applied, air-operated NexSafe rail brakes are designed to automatically move into the safe position. They use spring force to secure the load in holding applications. The brakes have an excellent response time and a high stopping and holding force. They are therefore suitable for emergency stop situations and as holding brakes when de-energized. Their low backlash ensures that the position is held precisely. The brakes are clamped directly onto the guide rail. This ensures positive braking and holding in all axes without impairing the bearing surfaces. The brake geometry is similar to a carriage, making installation easier. No lubrication or regular maintenance is required. Nexen offers numerous models that fit most common profile guide rails and guide carriages.

NexSafe rail brakes can be supplied with sensors that detect the application and release of the brake. Guide rail brakes with mounted sensors are ideal for emergency stop and redundant safety braking applications such as gantry axis braking, industrial door opening and closing, medical equipment and hospital beds, primary and secondary packaging and window and door manufacturing. NexSafe rail brakes with sensors are Industry 4.0-compatible. The information provided by the sensors helps with accurate linear positioning, predictive maintenance and provides operational feedback. They maximize machine efficiency and enable system manufacturers to achieve higher safety classes.

The rail brakes certified for functional safety reduce the risk of injury due to operating errors or mechanical failure. They offer a tested, reliable solution that machine builders can rely on. With functional safety certification to ISO 13849-1, NexSafe brakes are ideal for applications where safety is paramount. Optional operating mode sensors also ensure that NexSafe products fit into multi-channel systems designed for ISO 13849-1 categories B to 4 and performance levels PLa to PLe. Furthermore, NexSafe brakes are certified in accordance with the IEC 61508, ISO 12100, ISO 13850 and ISO 4414 standards.
