Linear motion system

High-speed transportation and positioning

In the networked factory, everything has to mesh seamlessly and quickly. This also applies to the transportation and positioning of products and materials. The linear motion system ctrlX FlowHS achieves this through flexibility and high speed with reduced space requirements.

The compact solution can be flexibly configured for different topologies and use cases. It is integrated into the ctrlX Automation modular automation system and benefits from its openness and security as well as the complete ecosystem.

The ctrlX FlowHS linear motion system is an integral part of the ctrlX Automation modular automation system from Bosch Rexroth. This gives users access to all features, including interfaces for interoperability with other systems as well as communication and safety standards through ctrlX IOT. Synchronized operation of robots and other axes is also possible using the embedded ctrlX MOTION software.

ctrlX FlowHS is based on the ctrlX CORE control system with the ctrlX OS operating system. The solution is easily expandable and future-proof thanks to app technology.

"Thanks to the connection to our modular automation system, all components of the platform and also the apps from our partner ctrlX World can be used. This is a major advantage over self-contained systems, as users have the option of accessing a wide range of functions and making extensions. This allows companies to easily adapt their processes to changing requirements. This not only promotes innovation, but also efficiency throughout the entire manufacturing process chain," explains Steffen Winkler, Head of Sales Business Unit Automation & Electrification Solutions at Bosch Rexroth.

Flexible topologies and fast commissioning

In addition to its openness, ctrlX FlowHS is also designed for flexibility. Based on a modular construction kit, it has plug-and-play functionality. Segments such as straight lines, curves and turnouts can be combined as required to create specific topologies, lengths and routes.

"Users can easily configure their individual solution and put it into operation in a time-saving manner. It also paves the way for later adjustments and easy maintenance," says Steffen Winkler and continues: "ctrlX FlowHS is virtually cabinet-free. All the electronics are integrated into the segments. This saves space and effort."

High speed and minimum space requirement

The high dynamics of ctrlX FlowHS are another advantage that supports the performance required in the modern factory. With an acceleration of up to 10G and a speed of 5 m/s, the system enables fast movements. Multiple movers with a scalable payload of up to 2.5 kg (single) or 5 kg (connected) provide corresponding performance and precision. The U-shaped design improves routing and minimizes friction to ensure consistent maximum speed - even in curves.

At the same time, the space requirement is very low. "Compared to other solutions, the system has smaller movers and a product distance of just 40 millimetres, which has been reduced by 20 percent. This means that the system can also be used efficiently in confined production environments. This makes it possible to build more compactly, manufacture more efficiently and ultimately reduce the footprint," summarizes Winkler.
