Digital retrofit
Making refrigerators easily IoT-enabled
The communication capability of machines and systems is a basic prerequisite for Industry 4.0. Rittal is now offering a special adapter that creates comprehensive communication options so that cooling units from the Blue e series that are already in operation can be integrated into condition monitoring and IoT systems.
Digitalization is high on the agenda for many industrial companies. But what can be done if machines and systems do not have sufficient communication interfaces? A digital retrofit, which retrofits existing machines and systems with suitable communication technology, can be the ideal solution here. For example, Rittal has launched an adapter for its Blue e series cooling units that can be used to connect the units to smart condition monitoring and IoT systems.
Wall-mounted and roof-mounted cooling units become fit for I4.0
The new adapter enables condition monitoring of up to ten cooling units in a master-slave network. In addition to recording the data, efficiency analyses of the cooling solution can also be carried out. Monitoring for faults or exceeding limit values with automatic notification is also possible. This ensures higher availability and avoids expensive machine downtimes.
The new adapter is suitable for all appliances in the Blue e range that work with a Comfort Controller. This makes both wall-mounted and roof-mounted cooling units from the Blue e series fit for Industry 4.0. This applies to both the standard units and the stainless steel versions. Rittal cooling units with a Nema 3R/4 or Nema 4X classification are also ideal for integration into IoT applications. These are often used outdoors. Typical examples of such outdoor applications are systems for generating renewable energies such as solar or wind power plants. As these are often installed in remote areas, remote monitoring of the control and switchgear system is essential here.
Cooling units from the Blue e series are integrated into higher-level systems in combination with the IoT interface that Rittal has launched on the market for the devices in the successor series Blue e+. As direct communication between the IoT interface and the older Blue e devices is not possible, Rittal has developed the new IoT adapter. Configuration and commissioning is quick, convenient and completely programming-free via the web server integrated in the IoT interface.
