OT and IT must move closer together
At this year's Hannover Messe, IT security company Rohde & Schwarz Cybersecurity is presenting security solutions for digital industrial processes that are designed to build a bridge between OT and IT.
Sensitive production data is insufficiently separated in times of IIoT. In order to guarantee adequate protection, operational technology (OT) and IT must move closer together and break down existing boundaries. The challenge: OT cannot cover the security aspect of production processes. It is imperative that IT does this; however, knowledge of the needs and circumstances of OT is usually inadequate. Comprehensive protection and the prevention of production downtimes therefore require solutions from companies that know both OT and IT and mediate between them.
At the Hannover Messe, the cybersecurity company is presenting a three-stage security concept for network protection in "Industry 4.0", which, according to the manufacturer, meets the requirements of both sides. The first step focuses on detection: the IP Probe of the R&S Net Sensor classifies 2,000 of the most frequently used protocols and applications from various business areas and all geographical regions. In the second step, the R&S Net Reporter analysis platform is used to analyze network traffic and possible anomalies. Together, the two products form the R&S Industrial Network Analytics solution and, according to the manufacturer, provide real-time information on the status of a network. Problems resulting from infected machine controls, misconfigurations or potential cyberattacks are detected at an early stage with the solution. sw
